Software Development Engineer II (Full-stack Engineer)

About the role

Mapbox is looking for a seasoned full‑stack engineer to join the Data Tooling team. You will help build and evolve the tools that power the validation, editing, and triage of global basemap data, ensuring customers receive the most accurate live map experience.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test Mapbox tools and services for handling customer feedback and third‑party data corrections.
• Solve complex workflow problems and implement enhancements in both frontend and backend based on evolving business needs.
• Establish and monitor operational metrics to guarantee service performance and drive continuous improvement.
• Maintain clear documentation for all services you own.
• Collaborate closely with the in‑house editors team to understand their workflows and translate their needs into technical solutions.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience as a full‑stack software engineer.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React.
• Solid server‑side development experience with Node.js (Nest.js or Express.js).
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and container orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Good grasp of UI/UX principles, client‑side state management, and asynchronous programming.
• Understanding of REST APIs, SPA architecture, micro‑frontend patterns, and common design patterns.
• Experience with testing frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library, or Cypress.
