Software Development Engineer II, Navigation Native

About the role

Mapbox is seeking a fast‑learning C++ engineer to develop core components of its Navigation SDK ecosystem. You will work on a high‑performance C++17 library that powers navigation on mobile devices and low‑power automotive hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain a unified C++17 library that runs seamlessly on iOS, Android, and automotive embedded platforms.
• Analyze and improve map‑matching and dead‑reckoning algorithms using real‑world data from millions of vehicles.
• Implement route‑following features, including high‑frequency progress reporting, deviation detection, and timely instruction delivery.
• Develop road‑object matching (OpenLR) and integrate live traffic incidents to provide predictive road‑ahead information.
• Design predictive caching for routing tiles and manage on‑board resources such as junction views and signposts.
• Integrate and extend the Valhalla routing engine to support offline routing and route‑refresh controllers.
• Leverage AI tools thoughtfully in the design and development workflow to increase efficiency and code quality.

Required profile

• Strong proficiency in C++17 (or later) with deep knowledge of the language specification, memory management, standard library, and multi‑threading.
• Passion for writing clean, fast, and portable code that meets strict CPU and memory constraints.
• Experience working with complex graph‑based structures and navigation‑related algorithms.
