Senior Backend Engineer - Ruby

About the role

Tripledot Studios, one of the largest independent mobile games companies, is building a new player rewards platform called Puzzleplay within its studio. The role is a Senior Backend Engineer - Ruby who leads the technical direction, builds the platform's foundations and helps turn ideas into reality. It combines the autonomy of a startup with the resources of a larger gaming business.

Key responsibilities

• Define the architecture, technology strategy and engineering roadmap as the studio grows.
• Design and develop scalable, secure and reliable backend systems powering gaming experiences, rewards and incentive mechanics.
• Stay hands-on with engineering while setting high standards for code quality, performance and delivery.
• Establish engineering practices, mentor others and help build a talented team.
• Work closely with product, game design and studio leadership to turn ideas into products.
• Balance startup-style autonomy with the infrastructure and expertise of the wider studio.

Required profile

• Extensive backend engineering experience with a track record of building and scaling production systems.
• Experience shaping technical strategy and leading engineering initiatives.
• A hands-on, pragmatic approach balancing speed, quality and long-term scalability.
• A commercial and product mindset, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Genuine enthusiasm for gaming, rewards and incentives; a bonus is experience in gaming, loyalty, rewards or high-volume consumer platforms.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Ruby.
• Software architecture, APIs, distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
